Personality:

+ Obedient: Ami’s a good soldier. Although, considering her lack of leadership skills, it was pretty much her only other option. If someone takes charge during a match, Ami will follow every order given to a T. However, she’s perfectly capable of making her own decisions should no one take up being the leader.

+ Determined: Splat her as many times as you want but she’ll keep coming back! Ami firmly believes that it’s not over until the timer hits zero.

+ Open-minded: Ami’s more than willing to experiment with different ideas, tactics, weapons, or foods! She’ll even think of potential new plans when she’s not battling. Overall, there’s very little that she’d be unwilling to do.

- Flirty: It doesn’t matter who you are but Ami will find you, and she will flirt with you. She does respect personal boundaries, though. And after a nasty incident in the past, she’ll stop flirting if you ask.

- Short Tempered: She tries her best to stay calm and collected at all times but if something goes wrong, expect her to get salty very quickly.

- Snarky: Ami may not take every chance she gets to jab at someone, but when she does she does not hold back. At least she’ll make jabs at herself every now and then to make up for it……

 

Backstory:

Ever since she was a young Inkling, Ami has always loved battling.  As a kid, her poor financial position often left her home alone as her parents stayed out late working. The result? Ami spent a lot of time watching battles. It didn’t matter if it was turf war or ranked, she watched whatever battle she could lay her eyes on to the point where it wouldn’t be too far off to say that she was raised by it. Ami never really understood the position she was in, despite it seemingly getting worse and worse each time she overheard her parents talk about money and a bunch of people named Bill. The young Inkling simply dreamed about battles, wanting nothing more than to be the best that there ever was! And when the ripe age of 14 came along she began that journey, though not without a major catch.

After winning her first three turf war matches, Ami rushed home in a fit of excitement to tell her parents about it. But when she opened the front door, they weren’t home. Instead, all she found were a bunch of open envelopes, some money, and a note from her parents that simply read, "We're sorry, Ami. We can't support us any more." This must've been a joke, right? She thought that at first, choosing to wait around all day, all night, and all the rest of the week, but they never came home. It slowly dawned on her that, no, this wasn't a joke. Reality had set in and Ami was afraid with so many thoughts racing through her head. What now? Should she tell someone? Would anyone even believe her if she told them? No. At least, she didn't think so. Instead, she looked at her Splattershot Junior and knew what'd she needed to do. 

Over the course of a year, Ami learned to go in hard with her battles. And when what she brought in from battles wasn't enough, she had learned how to sweet-talk people. To her, a few compliments towards someone was well worth getting a free meal or a discount, however small. Her money management skills were poor at first, as she tended to prioritize expensive, higher-end gear for battling under the assumption of "spend money to make money". However, when she ran out of food and suffered from battling on an empty stomach, she immediately changed her behavior. From that point on, almost all of her winnings from turf war and ranked battles went towards buying food and for keeping her house running. She never bought any new weapons, sticking with the Splattershot Junior, and any new gear or clothing she bought tended to be either second-hand or low-ranking.

It wasn’t all bad, though. The next year, Ami had the good fortune of meeting an Octoling named Kandela during a ranked match. While their first interaction ended with Kandela stabbing Ami through the shoulder with an E-Liter for flirting with her, their relationship improved rather quickly from there. Eventually, the girls befriended an Inkling named Lime. From that moment on, the trio were nearly inseparable. And from spending time with Kandela alone Ami began changing for the better. She flirted less, got a better grasp on her anger issues, and even thought that she was developing genuine feelings for the Octoling. Her desires began to shit around. Less and less she thought about being “the best”, instead thinking about being with Kandela. Unfortunately, this was not meant to last as one day, without any warning, Kandela had vanished. Ami and Lime spent two months scouring every corner of Inkopolis for her but found nothing.

Two years later, Ami had moved in with Lime, slipping back in to her old habits and spending most of her days lounging around in her pajamas occasionally snacking as Lime supported them through battling. She battled so infrequently that she was no longer able to maintain her house and it got so run-down to the point where she simply couldn’t live there anymore, and the handful of times Lime was able to convince her to join him in turf war matches the results were disastrous as she was so out of practice.  Deep down, she knew that her behavior was a serious problem, but she had little motivation to do something about it until Lime confronted her. They both agreed that she was in desperate need of a fresh start and, luckily, Lime knew just the place for her to do so; Rio Tokiyaki. Together they found an apartment for Ami to live in and moved her in and for the first time in a long while, Ami felt excited again. Motivated to get back to how things used to be. As Lime left with the promise of visiting her every now and then, Ami smiled. With a clean slate and a new drive backing her up, she once again, started her journey to the top.

Extra:

- She really doesn’t like personalizing weapons. She just doesn’t see the point in adding something to a weapon that doesn’t give some kind of tactical advantage. She begrudgingly leaves the decorative stickers on weapon variants just so she knows how to tell them apart.

- She has extreme amounts of luck. This can range from finding some extra change on the ground, to a bomb rolling to a stop just out of reach of her, or to a shot that would’ve splatted her missing. While it doesn’t kick in all the time, there have been moments where she should not have been able to escape alive.

- Has a scar on the front and back of her left shoulder from where she was stabbed by Kandela’s E-liter.

- No matter what color she changes to, the tips of her tentacles will always be pink. If she’s already pink, her tips will be a darker shade of pink.

- This ain’t no lie, Ami’s bi, bi, bi! (I’m not sorry)

- She can’t snipe to save her life.

- She has a full set of real Octoling Gear that was a gift from Kandela. To this day, she still doesn’t know how Kandela got her hands on it. She also refuses to use it in battles because it means too much to her.

- She likes the Squid Sisters a lot. Her favorite song is Fresh Start (Maritime Memory is a close second) and if you sneak up on her, you can probably find her humming Bomb Rush Blush. She even knows the dance and lyrics by heart!
